Job Title: Kitchen Staff | EastLake Children's Center
Level: $19.50 per hour
Hours: up to 29 hours a week
The Kitchen staff shall work under the direct supervision of the Director, and is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing the preparation, cooking, baking, and serving of a variety of foods in quantity.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute the preparation of food, cooking, baking and serving tasks, to provide snacks and lunch to the Children’s Center students.
- Operate and maintain cooking equipment, such as ovens, stovetops, and grills.
- Maintain proper sanitary conditions to meet health codes, including the cleaning of utensils, equipment and Kitchen.
- Assure the proper storage of food.
- Create monthly snack and lunch menus.
- Estimate food quantities needed for meals and snacks according to the monthly menus; order correct amounts for economical food service.
- Place food and supply orders using approved vendors.
- Maintain inventory of all food and kitchen supplies.
- Maintain records of student food allergies and monthly menus.
- Prepare alternate snacks or lunches for children with food allergies.
- Lift heavy containers of food and supplies.
- Consult with Director regarding Kitchen needs and conditions.
- Train and supervise support staff in the methods and procedures of assigned tasks; organize and assign work in the kitchen.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other staff.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Methods of preparing, cooking and serving food in large quantities.
- Inventory methods and practices.
- Nutritional requirements of preschool-aged children.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Standard liquid and dry measurements.
- Sanitation and safety practices related to cooking and serving food.
- Storage and rotation of perishable food.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, and responsible experience in preparing food in large quantities.
License and Other Requirements:
Must possess a valid California Driver’s License along with a valid Food Handler Certificate.
